FIEA has announced the official programme for its highly anticipated Environmental Forestry 2025/26 conference. Shaped by significant input from industry leaders, Scion, MPI, and past delegates, the conference will run from 23-24 March 2026, Rotorua, New Zealand, complemented by insightful pre- and post-conference workshops.
“Our previous event successfully convened over 200 representatives spanning environmental, operations, technical, and management roles from the forest industry, alongside local and central government,” said John Stulen, Programme Director. “This conference is meticulously designed for those on the ground, those planning operations, ensuring compliance, and crafting policy.”
A key highlight of the conference will be the keynote address by James Newman, Senior Science Advisor at the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment. Newman will delve into the recently released and influential Alt-F Reset report, a landmark document poised to reshape the future of forestry in New Zealand and guide the enhancement of environmental strategies across the sector.
Environmental Forestry 2025/26 will tackle pressing issues and explore innovative solutions, with topics including:
- The New Government’s Policy Environment
- Industry-wide Research Perspectives
- Case Studies from Large Environmental Projects (Beyond Forestry)
- Continuous Cover Forestry – International Practices
- An Iwi Perspective on Forestry Environment Management
- Wilding Conifers Management and Control
The conference offers a dynamic platform to address these challenges head-on through a diverse range of case studies, engaging panel discussions, presentations on best practices, and crucial networking opportunities. Participants will gain valuable insights from leading organisations such as Summit Forests, Scion, MPI, Aratu Forests, Abodo Wood, Manulife, Backblocks Environmental Management, Ngati Hine Forestry Trust, and many more.
