Mandatory climate reporting requirements are changing how the heavy vehicle industry approaches decarbonisation with pressure building across entire supply chains to measure and reduce emissions.
Speaking at TruckShowX in the Hunter Valley last month, Nanae Kii of Toll Group said the company’s decarbonisation strategy is focused on balancing ambitious emissions targets with commercial realities in a difficult operating environment.
“We have committed to net zero emissions by 2050 and near-term targets by 2031,” she said. The company’s targets align with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and include Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions – meaning Toll must address emissions not only from its own operations, but also from subcontractors, suppliers and service providers across the value chain.
“These are ambitious targets,” said Kii. “But what’s important is how we actually navigate them in reality, because the context we’re operating in today is challenging economic conditions, rising operational costs, and a highly competitive transport market.”
