WoodTECH News Summary – March 2024

This month’s lead story highlights a significant investment in the future of Australian sawmilling. Whiteheads Timber Sales has partnered with Springer to embark on a major sawmill modernisation. This ambitious project will incorporate the latest generation of robotic-based machine design and functionality and aims to set new industry standards.

New Zealand and Australia are both seeing exciting developments in the timber construction sector. Scion, a New Zealand research institute, has joined the Australian Research Council’s Advance Timber Hub, which aims to drive innovation in mid-rise timber buildings. Additionally, Melbourne has just completed its tallest mass timber office building, the 14-storey T2 Collingwood, further showcasing the potential of mass timber construction.

Finally, we celebrate the resilience of Pan Pac, whose Whirinaki mill is back in operation almost a year after being severely damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle. This is a testament to the hardworking staff and the overall strength of the industry.

We delve deeper into this exciting project later in the newsletter, where you’ll find a comprehensive breakdown of the planned upgrades.

There are plenty of stories this month. So, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy the read.
