ForestTECH News Summary – March 2024

The two key themes in this month’s issue are sustainability and efficiency.

Interpine have developed a new tool for accurately measuring forestry slash, a critical step in reducing post-harvest waste and reducing environmental damage.  Additionally, Forestry Corporation of NSW has shared the challenges, successes and lessons from their Black Summer timber salvage program and we cover an interesting new film that will resonate with forest managers in this part of the world, that looks at California’s forest fires and the need for reducing fuel loads.

In this month’s issue, we have advancements in technology and data collection, including the introduction of the JoLiDAR-1000 Lidar sensor for detailed aerial mapping, Wingtra’s new drone platform and a collaboration between Trimble and DroneDeploy.  In addition, Mark Kimberley and Michael Watt report on a new multi-species carbon calculator designed for growers to explore the impacts of site, rotation length and different silvicultural regimes on tree growth, timber yield, log grade out-turn and carbon sequestration.

There are plenty of stories this month. So, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and join us as we delve into the latest news and developments in forestry.
